About Me

My name is Emilio Garcia, I was born and raise in the Dominican Republic. My family moved to the United States when I was 10 years old. I am the oldest of three siblings, been the oldest mean that you need to set an example for your youngest siblings which mean a lot in my family. I recently decided to come back to school to finish my degree in engineering. Sometimes we set goal for ourselves, but life make it hard at time to pursuit those dreams. My passion for engineering started when I was a little kid, I was always curious on how most of my toy cars operated, I used to open my remote battery toy cars to see how the whole car used to function. I believe that when we are kids, we all show little sign of the stuff that would really interest us when we would become adult. Those curiosity that I had when I was a young adult were the reason that I decide to pursuit a degree in civil engineering, I always been passionate on learning how all the structure and building around us were built. I am a strong believer that we must chase our passion in order to succeed in life. One of my passions is fitness, over the years I had learned that in life we can achieve anything when we learn the value of hard work. Fitness had taught me that anything can be achieve if you commit yourself to certain goal, we must work every day to make ourselves better persons which can get your closer to achieve those dream in life. When I first started college a couple’s years ago, I was very shy and afraid of talking to people in general. I would say that public speaking was one of my greater fears in life, it was hard for me to be able to overcome this fear. I had a mentor who taught me that if we convince ourselves that we are excited when it comes to talking in public is the same feeling as saying that you are afraid, our mind can’t differentiate the two of them. I was able to start talking more and more until I was finally comfortable and able to overcome this fear of mine. Since be able to become a more social person I was able to become the president of the Physics Club in our school two semester ago, I was also able to take greater challenge on my job outside of school. All this achievement were only possible because I decide that I wanted to be better in life. Sometimes is hard for us to break our own routine and leave the conform zone. I want to keep pursuit an engineering major and specialized myself in transportation engineering. I hope that soon I would be able to use my skill to help my community back in the Dominican Republic. I would love to give back to the people and community that helped me become the man I am today. I would love to help my country to be able to become more advance and better for all our people who struggle every day because of the lack of proper structure and road in the country. The greater pleasure in life come when you help others without expecting anything in return. I hope that the challenge I face on my journey in life would help me become a better man every day.
